Come get your hands dirty
Everything we deliver is grown, picked, washed, packed, and driven by volunteers. There is always room for more of us.
Volunteer
What volunteering actually involves.
Mornings in the garden, mostly. No experience needed, and nobody will test you on anything.
Growing days
Planting, weeding, watering, and mulching through the season. A couple of hours at a time.
Harvest and pack mornings
Picking, washing, and packing on delivery days. This is the busiest and most useful shift.
Driving
Getting bundles from the garden to the clinic. You need a license, a car, and about an hour.
Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign off. Anyone recognizable in a photograph on this site has agreed to be there.
Donate supplies
What we can actually use.
We accept donated supplies only, never money, and not because we are being modest about it. We have no entity, no treasurer, and no bank account, so accepting cash would create a real problem rather than a shortcut.
Seeds and seedlings
Vegetable varieties suited to the North Carolina Piedmont.
Soil, compost, and mulch
Bagged or bulk. This is our largest recurring cost.
Clean bags and containers
New paper bags or food-safe containers. We never reuse them between deliveries.
Tools and watering gear
Hand tools, hoses, watering cans, row cover, stakes.
