Get involved

No experience, no problem, no minimum.

No experience needed, no minimum commitment, and nothing to bring. If you can kneel in a garden bed for an hour, you can do every job we have.

What you would do

Pick your kind of morning.

  • Planting days

Preparing beds and getting seeds and seedlings into the ground. The heaviest work, and the least frequent.

  • Garden care

Watering, weeding, and checking for pests. An hour, most weeks, whenever suits you.

  • Harvest and pack mornings

Picking, washing, and packing on delivery days. Early starts, because everything is picked the morning it goes out. This is the busiest and most useful shift.

  • Driving

Getting bundles from the garden to the clinic. You need a license, a car, and about an hour.

What to expect

Honest about the small stuff.

  • You will not be alone

At least one of us is at every shift, along with our adult advisor. Nobody is ever sent to the garden by themselves.

  • Shifts are short

Most are an hour. Harvest mornings run to two. We would rather have you back next week than exhausted once.

  • You will not meet a recipient

Bundles go to our partner clinic, and the clinic decides who receives them. We never hold a family's name, and neither will you.

  • Under 18 is welcome

Most of us are. You will need a parent or guardian to sign off before your first shift.

The form takes about two minutes. We will get back to you within a few days with the next shift that matches what you picked.

Groups

Clubs, classes, and youth groups.

We can take a group of up to eight on a planting or harvest day, and it is genuinely useful — a bed that takes two of us a fortnight takes a group one morning.

Email us with rough numbers and a date range rather than using the form above, and we will find a day that works.
